Pirates have been in Madagascar, since there was seafaring.
Inaugurated in December 2008 the Pirate Museum in Antananarivo / Madagascar tells the story of pirates and so also those of pirates off Madagascar. The first and only Pirate Museum in Madagascar was opened on December 18 of 2008. The opening address was given by the Swiss Ambassador Carlos Orga. This is because the initiator of the museum, Franz Stadelmann, a Swiss citizen in Madagascar is active since 1988: one side by 1988 to 2003, the Swiss Development Aid (SDC) and since 1994 as founder and head of PRIORI.

Antananarivo. In Madagascar, now a museum recalls the piratical past of the African country. At the initiative of a Swiss a pirate museum is opened in the capital Antananarivo shortly.
The fourth largest island in the world was once a popular hideout for pirates. Presented in the museum, a look back at 300 years of piracy not only in the Indian Ocean, but also in the Caribbean. According to the operator, the museum will be open Monday through Friday from 8.00 to 17.00.
