Tom Mason and the Blue Buccaneers are a wild band of accomplished Nashville musicians who play a rollicking mix of piratical sing-alongs, rousing historical rave-ups, afro-cuban tinged ballads, and

bluesy Irish jigs, dressed as pirates! The Blue Buccaneers play with the fervor of the Pogues and the sensitivity of the Buena Vista Social Club. Their songs transport you to the wildest pub in Port Royal at the turn of the 18th century, their CDs are rowdy and evocative works that transcend any aspect of novelty that one might expect at first glance, and their showmanship and musicianship make for a memorable performance.

Tom Mason and the Blue Buccaneers have three CD’s out and will be releasing their fourth in 2016. They have toured the world, playing at such events as the Port Fairy Folk Festival in Australia, Tall Ships Festivals in Norway and on the Great Lakes, The Minnesota State Fair, Pirate Festivals in America and Great Britain, and tour regularly in the US, the UK, and Caribbean.

The Blue Buccaneers tour most frequently as a four piece band, though often Tom Mason will give solo or duo educational performances or private shows.

” Tom Mason isn’t just a songwriter, singer and guitar virtuoso, he’s a terrific entertainer… his pirate songs have choruses that the audience can bellow along with, the best way to enjoy pirate music”

— John Baur, co-creator of “Talk Like a Pirate Day”

“Mason’s as talented at tale-spinning as he is at fret-work”

— Dave Marsh, Rock & Rap Confidential

“The Blue Buccaneers were definitely a big hit with the crowd, the perfect entertainment for a Tall Ships Event!”

— Bob Desh, Executive Director, Door County Maritime Museum

“One of Nashville’s most engaging musical scoundrels”

— Jim Ridley, Nashville Scene

AHOY YOUNG BUCCANEERS!!
Quarantine, day number 160? 225? 1492? I've lost track… I have a distant memory of playing music with other people, and a faint recollection of actually meeting with Sage O'Silver and Fawn Larson, with Sage's inamorato Swabby manning a picture making device. If I'm not mistaken it was early summer, though even the seasons have escaped me. . .
I do know we created a magical moving picture for children who were in isolation in their homes. Now, with schools starting and stopping and some youngsters once again being schooled at home, it seems like the perfect time to roll out our vocational training film for powder monkeys of all ages, "If You Want to be a Pirate". It is 36 minutes long, and includes many opportunities to get up and sing, dance, and even learn something. Sage spent long hours studying the sorcery to make us move on the screen, and I've been told we can enter homes the world around by means of something called a computer.
Sage also informed me that though our likenesses would be visiting houses far and wide, there would be no way to, ah, shall we say, make like pirates and plunder during these visits. With that in mind, feel free to donate to our tip jar at www.tommason.net (times are lean) and while you're there purchase a CD if you're flush. All of the songs we sing here are on our CD "If You Want to be a Pirate: Songs for Young Buccaneers". Feel free to share this video far and wide. Fair Winds!! … …… . . .

Quarantine , Day 124, a dungeon cell in I don't know where. The bastille? … Last night the gendarme took pity on me, and brought me leftovers from his family's national day of celebration, though I'm unclear whether it was Bastille Day, July 4th, Canada Day, or Algerian Independence Day. All I know is that it was the first time I'd tasted Welsh Rarebit in a long time, and even lukewarm in a prison cell it was a welcome change from the daily gruel.
Now, the drawback of welsh rarebit is the unsettling dreams that occur after one ingests it. Last night was no exception, and I found myself returning to my recent dream of going before the court and being given liberty in exchange for singing pirate songs (pirate songs!) for children. In this dream the judge stated that children and their parents were growing puffy during the plague sitting on their sofas, and that Sage, Fawn, and I were to create a dance that would curtail the sedentary urges of potentially pudgy pirates while teaching them useful tasks of seafaring sorts.
My pondering of whether one could experience deja vu while dreaming was interrupted by Swabby once again leading we three masked marauders (Sage O'Silver, Fawn Larson, and myself) away to make another bewitched moving picture, this time of the song "A Lt of Work to be a Pirate".
I woke up in a sweat, having been subjected to hard labour throughout my dream. Should you want to contribute to our tip jar or purchase CD's ("If You Want to be a Pirate" for young buccaneers, or the other four for those wishing the rum, murder, and infinite longing at sea were still intact), please go to www.tommason.net . Also, share this widely, as we have heard the world needs aerobic routines that involve piracy. Quarantine, day 122, a dungeon somewhere in the northern hemisphere. I woke up from a dream last night in which I had been given temporary liberty on the condition that first mate Sage O'Silver and I create some piratical songs completely lacking in murder, rum, and long-term suffering. While at first I protested to the judge that such songs would not be piratical, Sage sagely yanked me away to fulfill these duties, illogical as they may seem. The judge ordered us to share these songs with children and their parents in need of entertainment during the plague, and with libraries for their socially distant summer reading programs.
We donned our masks and found a third party who had been safely quarantined, a talented chanteuse named Fawn Larson, and Sage's paramour Swabby whisked us away to a hermetically sealed hermitage to make some magical moving pictures of us singing said songs.
I'm not sure whether it was in a dream within the dream, but I swear I heard someone shout "Release the Kraken!", so we sang "Kristofer the Kindly Kraken". (I do vaguely remember falling asleep in my dream.)
The gendarme just brought me extra straw for a pillow, so I'm going back to sleep to try to remember the other songs we sang. Should you want to contribute to our tip jar or purchase CD's ("If You Want to be a Pirate" for young buccaneers, or the other four for those wishing the rum, murder, and devastating loss were still intact), please go to www.tommason.net . Quarantine, Day 102… I was transferred from my dungeon to a penal colony in what I guess is in the southern part of America. In an attempt to atone for what I was told were crimes, I was told to meet with my fellow Blue Buccaneer Fiddlin' Sage O'Silver in an isolated location, where we were to create moving images to encourage children to learn to read. Imagine that! Us! Pirates!
We enlisted the help of the immensely talented Fawn Larson (AKA Fawn LARRRRRson), Sage's husband Kevin filmed, Sage used sorcery to create motion pictures, and we now have a 36 minute program teaching the young the more ethical side of piracy. We'll post that later, but for now we'll release song videos one at a time. If you have one of those magic devices for collecting images from afar, please show these songs to tomorrow's pirates, and share away. If you are so moved you can buy the CD "If You Want to be a Pirate: Songs for Young Buccaneers" or just want to leave us a tip go to www.tommason.net,. #imagineyourstory #piratesinquarantine #sagesnider #tommason # fawnlarson #tommasonandthebluebuccaneers #childrensmusic #ifyouwanttobeapirate #cleanwater #summerreadingprogram #treasurethroughthetrash

The Captain is slacking, he's been distracted by the news. In the meantime, here's something else.
My hometown is on fire. The awful video of a black man being murdered by a police officer while three other officers stood by and did nothing in the Minneapolis neighborhood where I spent much of my twenties, and the riots that have broken out in the face a country that has does so little to address racism has been so disheartening. How are we to respond? I try to stay upbeat and positive in the face of coronavirus and isolation, so I'll find a peppy upbeat tune to record soon. In the meantime, here's an old song of mine that a friend suggested a while back, "Jaded". Peace. Love. Justice. Stay well. Love everybody. #IfIGetJaded #musiccitysingsat6 #whereshadowsfall #stopracism #loveeverybody

It’s been a long few weeks filled with episodes that seemed to culminate in the Minnesota killing. I hope none of us get jaded and become passive due to the overwhelming number of like incidents. Beautiful song.

Thanks Tom. It's heartbreaking to watch and read about what is happening in the town we both spent so much time in. Love ya bud.

Some of the rioting is about 3 blocks from us. Latest is that Ax Man is burning. Of all stores to burn. Hope not, but senseless begets senseless. Further east, an auto/tire place.

Quarantine, Day 61, a brig of brick in a nearly deserted city on the banks of the Rio Corona. I awoke this morning with a fever to create that masterpiece that has been welling up inside of me for so long. (I must note that the fever was spiritual, not physical. I'm fine.) Rarely are we given the luxury of time to devote to the artistic culmination of our life's work. For once I was not being called off to pillage anything, set fire to some ship or another, berate my crew, or squander my plunderings at taverns or dens of perdition. No, this morning I awoke to that glorious gift of time with which I'd let my imagination soar!
With unfettered exhilaration in my voice I shouted to my jailer to bring me a bare canvas, brush, and paint, a quill and ink and a book to write in, and a snifter of brandy. It seems the prison had fallen on hard times no doubt due to the plague, for he only managed to bring a bowl of gruel (not my medium) and a cup of water. Thankfully I still have the stone with which I've been marking out the days, and I will set out to do a sketch of The Last Supper until supplies arrive. As we are all anchored in some port or another these days, here be "Any Port in a Storm" from the "World is Ablaze" CD.

It's a sin to say it because so many are having a hard time, but I am also enjoying the stretch of time. The art, the luxury of planning for beauty in the garden... And I'm in port with my beloved so it's a very pleasant harbor, indeed. Be well. And thanks for all the music.

Love and miss you guys so much Ty for making my day happier

Quarantine, Day 59, in a derelict prison on the outskirts of Penetralia. When the jailer brought me my bouillie du matin (morning gruel), he mentioned that some of the villagers, against the advice of soothsayers, have been succumbing to their wanderlust and trotting off unmasked to breathe deep the pathogenic breezes. While nothing inspires a yearning to travel more than four fortnights in a fortress of stone with straw for a mattress and no-one but vermin for companions, I believe I'll continue to limit my sojourns to daydreams until the surgeons call for my release. What better a time to brush up on foreign tongues? Here is the song "Say Goodbye", a peppy little piratical threat, with the word "goodbye" translated into Russian, German, and Japanese. We forgot "au revoir", "ha det bra", "adios", and others, and I think "hasta mañana" is more fitting to the mask-wearing of our mates.

Day 50, quarantine, a cell in the Catacombs of Covidia. Before Hurricane Corona hit, I was planning to set sail with Sage O'Silver for the southwest of England, where we were to meet up with the mighty Scottish Blue Buccaneers, Mikey Maclennan and Steve Ryan Liddle, and as navigator the infamous captain of the mighty ship The Wayward Moose, Rob Ellen. There we would proceed to the Brixham Pirate Festival for a mayhem-filled Mayday celebration lasting through the weekend. From there we were to carry on to Filey, the Highlands of Scotland, Liverpool and West Kirby, and the Conwy Pirate Festival, in an almost complete circumnavigation of Albion. Well, it was not to be, and while wistful (and somewhat hungry), I am fortunate to be in sanitary confinement with no gallows in my future and thanks to the generosity of some benevolent music lovers, no wolves at my door yet (or so I am told, having not seen the outside of my door in some time.) In truth I'm grateful all these events have been postponed during the plague because I want to see me hearties again! Here's our song "The Sea" for our friends across the pond.

Day 49 of quarantine in a dungeon on the Isle of Corona. Normally a dungeon like this would be overcrowded with the wretched stench and incessant prattling of odorous criminals, but by some gift of divine intervention it's only my own stench and jabbering of the voices in my head that I have to put up with.
My gaoler informed me it was Mayday ("Hooray Hooray, the first of May…"), leading me to wax nostalgic of Beltanes past. Oh, to again see the ship festooned in Dionysian glory, when the crew turned the mainmast into a maypole and fashioned ribbons from the sails, dancing around the mast with seaweed in their hair!
Then again, there was that Mayday the ship was filled with Trotskyites and the crew went on strike, demanding better rations and shorter watches. To calm their freebooting nerves I stood on the quarterdeck and gave what was one of my most moving speeches, saying the crew's hunger was the captain's hunger, their pain was my pain, and we would all feast together after the next raid. All was going swimmingly, with some grown pirates breaking down in tears, when the gunner McEwen pointed out I had pastry crumbs in my beard. At that it almost descended into mutiny, before I broke out some rum and promised better payment for loss of limbs.
I've heard tell that in the midst of the plague unemployment is high, and it reminded me of the Royal Navy's employment agencies of yore, the press gangs, and the incentives they would offer. Here is a quarantine version of "In The Service of the King" from the CD "The Blue Buccaneer".

I know this is stupid, but you know me. You should consider recording some of your songs (many that you've been performing everyday on here) and create an acoustic album with just you and your guitar. The words have more clarity and believe it or not your personality, crazy though it is, comes shining through. I might be the only one that would buy a couple of copies but you could count on me

Day 42, In quarantine on the Isle of Corona, commonly misheard as "I love Corona". I have been keeping my ear cocked to the chink in the wall of my cell to see what I can glean about this island. Much as I try, I can't make out the accents in the faint mutterings I hear in the distance, even in the jailer who brings me porridge in the morning. Today he actually uttered a sentence to me, observing that, for a captain, I was quite a humble man. To that I agreed profusely, concurring that a more modest man you wouldn't find on the seven seas, that never has a pirate been as self-effacing as me, and that were there awards for such matters, I would certainly be the king of unpretentiousness. Having said that, in order to succeed in the world of piracy, one must have a certain degree of braggadocio, so I sang him the song "The Likes of Me" from the Tom Mason and the Blue Buccaneers CD "The World is Ablaze". Had I been able to borrow Master Thorneycroft's bagpipes, social distancing would be much easier.

Day 39 Quarantined in le Dungeon d'Amour, The Bastille, Paris, France. (Truthfully I have no idea where the prison I'm in is, but last night I dreamed of a baguette smothered with brie, accompanied by a cappuccino in a cafe in the Montmartre with an accordion playing, so today I am in the Bastille of my mind!) While my thoughts are wandering from my place of confinement to romance, I thought I'd sing a piratical love song inspired by the pirate Henry Avery, who legend has it fell in love with a slave girl from the Ganj-i-Sewai, the great Mughal Ship he captured.
